About Qentrixa

A small repair business built on honest diagnostics, careful workmanship, and straightforward communication. Based in Gourock, serving the local area and surroundings.

Our background

Where we came from

Qentrixa began as a practical response to a genuine local need. Residents and small businesses in the Gourock area often found themselves with limited options for reliable, honest computer repair — the choice was usually between large national chains (expensive, impersonal, sometimes unreliable) or informal sole traders with variable quality.

We started small, working from a modest workshop space, taking on the kinds of repairs that most shops would turn away or price prohibitively. Over time, the business grew through word of mouth and repeat custom rather than advertising.

What hasn't changed is the approach: assess properly, explain clearly, and fix only what needs fixing. We've turned down work that wasn't worth the cost to the customer. We've declined to use parts that weren't up to standard. We've told people honestly when a repair wasn't likely to be worth it.

That's not an unusual way to run a business — it's just the way we think it should be run.

How we work

Our technical philosophy

A few principles that shape how we approach every job — not aspirational values statements, but practical standards we hold ourselves to.

Diagnose before replacing

We test first. Replacing components without clear evidence is expensive for the customer and doesn't always resolve the problem. Our diagnostics are methodical and documented.

Explain in plain language

Technical findings are only useful if they're communicated clearly. We don't use jargon to seem knowledgeable — we use plain language because that's what's actually helpful.

Approve before we act

We don't begin repair work until you've agreed to the quote. Unexpected findings during a repair are communicated and discussed before work continues.

Honest about limitations

Some faults can't be fixed. Some recoveries aren't possible. Some repairs cost more than the device is worth. We'll tell you honestly when that's the case.

Why it matters

The case for careful diagnostics

In a fast-paced repair environment, there's pressure to move quickly. A customer with a non-booting computer wants it fixed today, not in three days. We understand that. But cutting short the diagnostic stage is where most repair jobs go wrong.

A computer that won't boot might have a failed drive, a corrupted OS, a faulty RAM module, a power supply issue, or a failed motherboard component. Swapping the drive without testing the others leaves the true fault unresolved. The customer gets the device back, it still doesn't work, and everyone has wasted time.

We take longer than some shops on the front end of the process — and that's deliberate. A properly diagnosed fault is a fault that stays fixed. The time invested in assessment pays off in fewer return visits, fewer unnecessary part replacements, and better outcomes overall.

This is also why we explain our findings. A customer who understands what failed and why is better placed to look after their equipment going forward. That's a better outcome than a repair without explanation.

Our history

How the business has developed

Slow, steady growth built on repeat custom and local reputation — not expansion for its own sake.

2017
Founded in Gourock
Qentrixa opened as a one-person repair operation, taking on consumer laptop and desktop repair work on a local basis. The early months were primarily word-of-mouth referrals from the immediate area.
2018
First small business clients
Several local businesses began using Qentrixa for ad hoc IT support — a natural extension of the existing repair work. This shaped the decision to expand the service offering beyond purely consumer repair.
2020
Team expansion and data recovery capability
A second technician joined the team, and we invested in professional data recovery tooling. This allowed us to take on a category of work that previously had to be referred elsewhere.
2022
Current workshop premises
We moved to our current location on Davidson Drive, giving us more space for thorough diagnostic work and a better customer-facing area for drop-off and collection.
2024–25
Team of four; broader service coverage
The team has grown to four full-time technicians with complementary specialisms. We continue to focus on the local area rather than pursuing volume growth.
Local focus

We're part of the local community

Qentrixa serves Gourock and the surrounding area — Greenock, Port Glasgow, Inverkip, Wemyss Bay and beyond. We're not trying to be a national brand. We're a local business that happens to do technical work, and we think that focus matters.

It means we know our customers and they know us. It means we're accountable to the community we work in. It means that when something goes wrong — and occasionally things do go wrong — there's a real person you can talk to directly.
